Integrating digital technologies into peer assessment for the development of academic writing skills

Abstract
The article examines the incorporation of digital technologies in peer assessment to improve academic writing skills within higher education. Peer assessment is acknowledged as an effective pedagogical tool that promotes critical thinking, self-regulation, and engagement. Traditional peer assessment methods frequently encounter challenges, including feedback inconsistency, bias, and logistical complications. The emergence of digital platforms and AI-driven tools has addressed these challenges by providing s tructured assessment environments, enhancing accessibility, and enabling more objective evaluations. This article analyzes the theoretical underpinnings of peer assessment, the benefits of digital peer review, and the challenges related to its implementati on. This discussion emphasizes the significance of digital tools such as Google Docs, Turnitin PeerMark, and AI-assisted feedback systems in enhancing the quality of feedback and fostering engagement. The study also delineates future directions for optimizing digital peer assessment, focusing on accessibility issues and improving training methodologies. The findings highlight the significance of utilizing digital tools to enhance peer assessment practices, thereby facilitating student learning and equipping them for collaborative academic and professional settings. The study provides recommendations for educators regarding effective practices for integrating digital technologies in peer assessment.
