Abstract
Antibiotics are chemical substances used to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. They are central to modern medicine transforming once-fatal infections into treatable conditions. Since the discovery of penicillin in 1928, antibiotics have saved millions of lives and remain critical in surgery, intensive care, immunosuppressive therapies, and chronic disease management.
