Pedagogical and psychological significance of disputes organized with senior students

Abstract

Recently, the mass forms of extracurricular work in our schools have included debate, interactive conversation, etc., among which dispute occupies a special place. Dispute is a Latin word, which means “to conduct a trial, to argue” [3, 51]. How many opposing meanings are there in the word dispute - small life conflicts, self-awareness, the mystery of the creation of the world... The idea that “truth arises from dispute” has historically proven itself with difficulty and was understood differently in different periods and cultures. Dispute means a general discussion of a problem, a clash of points of view in the process of proving one’s own opinion and refuting another’s. A dispute is a verbal competition on one or another issue. At this time, each person defends his own opinion. In the second sense, a dispute is a form of dialogue that can lead to a breakdown in the relations of the participants in the future. This creates a desire in the participants to delve deeper into the issue under discussion, to conduct a more detailed discussion. The skill of conducting a debate is of great importance to each of us, therefore it is appropriate to compare the debate with such concepts as "dispute", "discussion", "polemics" that are close to it. When talking about a dispute, here we mean a collective discussion of moral, political, literary, scientific, professional and other problems.
