Abstract

Objective: To investigate the quality of radioactivity control in plant products produced in our country, as well as those produced in Romania and imported into RM. To assess the quality of radioactivity control in plant products imported from the neighboring country, Ukraine, which experienced a nuclear accident. Methods: The research method used in this study is a quantitative cross-sectional observational study through a sociological survey instrument applied to pharmacists in community pharmacies in the Botanica sector of Chișinău city, who were active during the years 2020-2022. The presence of products derived from plant species on the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova will be evaluated, as well as the presence of the radiological control certificate issued by the National Public Health Center of the Republic of Moldova. Results: The results showed that the majority of pharmacists (85.5%) confirmed that the herbal products they sell have passed radiological control, but there is also a small number of pharmacists (14.5%) who are unaware of the requirements for radiological control and which medicinal products are subject to it. Additionally, a significant percentage of pharmacies (29.1%) were unable to present a radiological control certificate at the time of the survey. Conclusion: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of radioactivity in medicinal plants used in the Republic of Moldova, with specific objectives to investigate the quality of radioactive control for both domestically grown and imported plant products from Romania and Ukraine.
