Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the profound impact of the August 2008 War between Georgia and Russia on contemporary Georgian literature, focusing particularly on the works of writer Giorgi Sosiashvili. Through his collection "Disconnected Moon," which comprises twenty-seven stories written between 2008 and 2015, Sosiashvili poignantly captures the socio-emotional landscape of Georgian society post-war. The narratives reflect a community deeply affected by trauma, displacement, and the harsh realities of conflict. The stories explore diverse perspectives, from the reflections of a soldier to the innocent eyes of children caught in the upheaval, illustrating how war reshapes identities and familial bonds. Critics note the collection's emotional authenticity and socio-political critique, as Sosiashvili delves into the personal tragedies entwined with national history. The text serves as a literary artifact of the 2008 war, exploring themes of loss, memory, and the aspirations for peace amidst adversity. By intertwining historical fact with poignant storytelling, Sosiashvili not only memorializes individual experiences but also critiques the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. This analysis sets the stage for a broader exploration of the representation of the August War in Georgian literature, suggesting a rich tapestry of voices and narratives that continue to emerge from the shadows of conflict, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit in the face of profound suffering.
